Emirates, on its website, said flights to Birmingham, Glasgow, London and Manchester will be suspended from Friday. Last flight to the UK will reach London Heathrow 3.12pm UAE time (11.12am UK time) on Friday, just less than two hours before the suspension comes into force.

Similarly, Etihad also announced suspension of direct flights between Abu Dhabi and UK airports. However, those who have already booked their tickets can travel when the flight service restarts, the Abu Dhabi-based airline said on its website.

Dubai Airport, on its Twitter account, announced that all direct flights to the UK that were scheduled to arrive at their destination after 1pm UK time are cancelled. It also advised passengers who have booked travel on those flights not to go to the airport and contact their airlines for rescheduling the journey.

However, those with residence rights in the UK may still travel to the country through intermediate points, the airport said, adding that they should check about the travel requirements on UK government website.
